I can’t imagine how someone decided to try this for the first time….
It looks like a ton of fun though.
The last nail has been driven into the coffin. Apple is now offering movie purchases and rentals through its iTunes store. Movies will be available the day they are released on DVD. Good stuff. The days of brink-and-mortar retail stores for music and movies is officially over!

I just got this email forwarded to me which outlines a few ways to save some money at the gas pump. I thought it was interesting so I decided to post it.
TIPS ON PUMPING GAS (Good information)
 > I don’t know what you guys are paying for gasoline…. but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every gallon..
 > Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA, we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
 > Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening….your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.
 > When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.
 > One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.
 > Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up–most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.
I don’t think I’ll spend much time thinking about this when I go to the gas station. How much could this really save me over the course of a year? $100 - $200 maybe? Convenience is worth way more than that. If I need gas at 2:00 PM on a boiling hot day, guess what? I’m getting gas. I do think the fact that the gas companies have temperature adjusted fuel delivery systems is pretty cool. I’m sure they are in no hurry to see any sort of legislation requiring retail fueling stations to do the same.

I got into the beta for Xobni (see previous post). I actually got in twice - no idea how that happened. I have it on Outlook 2007 on my home computer and on Outlook 2007 on my office computer. Anyway, I have only sent out 1 of my 10 total invites to the beta. That leaves 9 invites remaining. If you happen to stumble upon this post, leave a comment with your email address and I will send you an invite. You can also call if you don’t want to post your email address - my number is on the about page (ext. 1).

I’m trying to get in on the beta test for what looks like a very cool and useful tool for Outlook. The tool, which is a plug-in for Outlook, is called Xobni Insight. Check it out and sign up for a beta invitation by clicking on the Xobni button at the bottom of this post. It looks like it will be very helpful to heavy email users with lots of contacts. If you have an invite to share, hook me up!
This is great. I just got a comment from another clown named Trey Hamburger. Here is his site! Absolutely amazing. He is the cousin of the subject of the fist WTF entry. As you can see, they are cut from the same cloth. Here is his bio from his website:
Dr. Trey Hamburger invented this mammotechnology a couple weeks after his 17th birthday. He has been a mammographer since spring-break of his sophomore year of high-school. And due to much opposition, he still holds that the legal mammogram age should be 18 rather than usual boring 41 in most states. He’s cousins with Robert Hamburger.
Both of these guys must be somewhere between 12 - 18 years old, in desperate need of female attention and two of the biggest tools on earth. I’m actually thinking of changing my blog from random thoughts to focus completely on these two. Maybe I can convince them to both join me on a conference call so I can interrview them - that is if I can pull them away from their game of Magic or Dungeons and Dragons for more than 5 minutes. Guys, when you read this (and I know you will), send me some pictures of you both (I’m sure you’re a couple of handsome devils). I’ll put them in my next post and do you proud.
Oh yeah - the Bears won again yesterday. Good stuff.

Week 1 of the college football season is over and the Cal Bears should be moving up in the rankings from their pre-season number 12 spot thanks to a great performance at home against Tennessee. I was at the game with a few friends and I have to say I have never seen our stadium so packed, so loud and so intense. Not even when the #1 Washington Huskies came into town in 1991 or even when we beat USC in 2003. Great job Bears fans. Next live game for me will be at UCLA then back up to Berkeley for the showdown with USC for all the Pac-10 marbles. Here’s to the Bears best season ever!

Today, I found 2 interesting tidbits of information about the iPhone:
1) Mashable is reporting that a company called iphonesimfree (I think they are a company because their website claims they will sell individual licenses of the software) claims to have developed a software only hack to unlock the iPhone for use with a carrier other that AT&T which uses SIM cards (T-Mobile here in the US) anywhere in the world.
This makes me want to buy an iPhone. As a staunch supporter of Apple products, I haven’t been able to justify putting down my BlackBerry for an iPhone. The BlackBerry handles Microsoft Exchange email, contacts and calender so well (all wireless) and the iPhone is not yet reported to provide such a seamless solution. That being said, I would consider buying one as an iPod, WiFi/wireless browser on the go and guess what, my phone will still ring because the SIM from my BalackBerry will be in the iPhone when I’m using it. Why the hell not. Tons of people carry around 2 devices. Why not have one of them be the most versatile and useful devices ever built? Besides, I have a BlackBerry Pearl and its very small. The only drawback I can see right now is that I think it will be a pain in the ass to constantly switch the SIM back and forth.
2) NewTeeVee is reporting that a company called Veveo has created a very good video search engine for mobile devices. That is great in and of itself but the best part is that the service also decodes videos in all formats and converts them to mp4 files so they can be played on the iPhone. Now all of the video sites have a shot at dominating mobile….yeah right.
I have always wondered what the 11-99 Foundation meant on the license plate frames all over the place. Well, I finally decided to Google it and found the answer. Check it out here.
